Stevenson 'Steve' Burl Hoggard

Stevenson “Steve” Burl Hoggard, age 85 passed away on January 14, 2014.

Steve was born Feb 2, 1928 at Buzzards Crossroads in Bertie County, NC, the son of the late Roy Hoggard and Atha Jane Harrison Hoggard. He was also preceded in death  by his wife Sylvia Ann Hoggard, his brother James Hoggard, his sisters Joyce Byrum and Lucille Bland, and granddaughter Dana Tinkham.

After 37 years he retired from United States Gypsum Co. He then built Steve’s Retirement Village in Tunis, NC where he was the owner/operator for 26 years.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Irene Bryant, Betty Ruth Chloe, Patsy Conner, and Gayle Harris. His children; Larry Hoggard (Jo Ann), Elizabeth Calhoun (Alan), and Sandy Schneirla (Jesse). A step-son; Eugene Babb (Linda). Grandchildren; Steve, Roy, and Crystal Hoggard. Jonathan Hoggard. Travis Wood and Heather Harding. Barbara Babb. 11 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:30 PM Friday, Jan 17, 2014 at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan 18, 2014 at 11:00AM at Union United Methodist Church, 809B Hwy NC 461 E, Union, NC with Rev. Earl Perry officiating.  Interment will follow at Stoney Creek Cemetery in Ahoskie NC.

Mr. Troy Jackson Rose, age 53 of Windsor, NC died January 18, 2014 at his home.

Mr. Rose was born July 26, 1960 in Bertie County, NC the son of the late Charlie Jackson Rose and Dorothy Keel Rose. He was also preceded in death by a sister Della Forehand.  

He was an equipment operator and truck driver for many years.

He is survived by his daughter Amanda Matthews and her husband Jeff of Windsor, NC. Two grandchildren, Madison Todd and Heidi Matthews.  His sisters and brothers, Dottie Lewis, Charlie Rose,  Monia Rose, Vickie Castelloe, and Connie Jernigan. Also,many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Windsor Assembly of God Church with Rev. Chuck Gray officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church and other times at the home his daughter.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Mary Price Barrett

Mrs. Mary Price Barrett age 88 of Garysburg, NC passed away Sunday, January 19, 2014 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Barrett was born October 8, 1925 in Northampton County, NC, the daughter of the late John William Price and Beatrice Stephenson Price.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Alvin Wright Barrett Sr. and siblings, John William Price Jr., Nina Hughes and Carl Price.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. After her children were grown she was employed by the Northampton County Tax Department from which she retired in 1986. Prior to that she worked as a list taker for the tax office and a census taker.

Above all she loved and cared for her husband, her sons and her grandchildren.  She leaves behind many friends.  Special thanks are given to her loving caregivers and the staff of Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their love and compassionate care.

She is survived by her children, Andrew Barrett and his wife Bette of Wake Forest, NC and Alvin W. Barrett Jr. and his wife Sue of Jacksonville, NC. Her granddaughters, Nancy Lawrence and her husband Keith of Fayetteville, NC and Becky Barrett of Germantown, Maryland.   Her step grandchildren, Jill Lane and husband Mike of Seattle, Washington,  Lewis Raynor and wife Haven of Portland, Oregon. Her step great grandchildren, Wren and August Lane. Her sisters-in-law, Winnie W. Price and Barbara Barrett. Her brother-in-law, Frank Barrett and his wife Syretha.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Hill officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Mary was a life-long member of Pleasant Grove Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers contributions to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund c/o Viola Hill, 3073 Cornwallis Road, Garysburg, NC 27831 or a charity of your choice.

 

Wilson C. Whitaker

Wilson C. Whitaker

Wilson C. Whitaker passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2014, in Austell, GA.

He was born on December 10, 1928, in Enfield, NC to parents Hubert Mahaney Whitaker & Nina Vinson Whitaker, and was the youngest of five siblings – Emma, Lilly, Nina, & Hubert, his twin brother.

He graduated from Enfield High School in 1947 and shortly thereafter joined the US Air Force, serving as a Second Lieutenant from August 21, 1950 to June 20 1955. During his sterling military career, Wilson bravely served his country by piloting twenty-six combat missions during the Korean War. After an honorable discharge in 1955, he returned to college on the GI Bill and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1959.

His spent more than two decades in industry, with distinguished career turns at The International Harvester Company, and Grove Manufacturing Company, respectively. Next, Wilson worked as a successful broker and investor with Chicora Real Estate in Myrtle Beach, SC, before launching Whitaker & Co., Associates in Real Estate in 1986.

Committed to a life of devoting his time in service to others, Wilson was a longtime member of Rotary International, serving as president of the Rotary Club of Conway, SC, from 1978-1979, and named Rotary Club Man of the Year in 1984.

Wilson, with Jacque, his loving wife of sixty years, enjoyed his retirement years in Cashiers, NC, traveling and spending time with family.

Wilson is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Stone Whitaker; his son, Wilson Cary Whitaker, II and daughter-in-law Irene, and their two sons, Wilson Cary Whitaker, III (Trey) & Myles; his son, John Stone Whitaker and daughter-in-law Julie, and their two children, Mark & Catherine; his son, Matthew Lawrence Whitaker and life partner, Patrick Wallace; and his siblings, Emma Whitaker Thompson of Topsail, NC, and Nina Whitaker Beavans, of Enfield, NC.

Funeral services will be held at Whitaker’s Chapel near Enfield, NC, on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 11:30AM.

The following week, a memorial service for Wilson will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 6:30PM in the Lakeview Room at Presbyterian Village, 2000 East-West Connector, Austell, GA (770-819-7000).

Russell Lee Bass

Mr. Russell Lee Bass, age 91 of Seaboard, NC passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Southampton Memorial Hospital in Franklin, VA.

Mr. Bass was born September 7, 1922 in Northampton County, NC, the son of the late Robert Drew Bass and Nannie Long Bass. He was also predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Annie Taylor Bass and a brother Waylon Bass.

Mr. Bass served his country during World War II as a member of the Army Air Corp. He was a proud veteran and continued his service after the war as a member of the Air Force Reserve.  He retired with the rank of captain.

He is survived by his children, David Bass and his wife Patti of Franklin, VA, Gary Bass and his wife Gail of Chester, VA, Robert Bass and his wife Lynda of Wilmington, NC and Jennifer Bass Bolton and her husband Pat, also of Wilmington, NC.  His brother, Robert D. Bass Jr. of Portland, Maine and his sister Ruth Bass Downing of Fayetteville, NC.  Seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

A Memorial Graveside service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Seaboard Cemetery in Seaboard, NC with Rev. Jim Cox officiating.

The family will receive friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like for you to say a special Thank You to all veterans who have served our great nation through the years.

Mrs. Ruby Coggins Storey age 87, of Rich Square and formerly of Jackson, NC died Friday, January 24, 2014.

Mrs. Storey was born May 7, 1926, the daughter of the late Eugene Coggins and Ester Vaughan Coggins. She was also predeceased by her husband Garland Bruce Storey Sr. and her son Garland Bruce Storey Jr.

 Survivors include her daughters, Barbara S. Cargill of San Diego, California and Linda Storey Lewis and her husband Ted of Atlantic Beach, NC. Her daughter-in-law, Barbara Storey of Rich Square, NC. A sister, Louise Rich of Vacaville, California. Her grandchildren Garland Bruce Story III and his wife Traci, Jeannie S. Crissman and her husband Wesley of Red Oak, NC., Michelle Pierce of Selma, NC, Jennifer Farmer of Atlantic Beach, NC and Colbie Lee-Cargill Washington State, and her great grandchildren Grace Nicole Storey, Braxton Jeremy Miller and Brantley Patrick Miller, Justin Hall, Erin Farmer, Gavin Farmer and John Michael Ferrell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Jackson United Methodist Church in Jackson, NC with Rev. Linda Katherine Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar-Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.

Mr. Ray Johnston Pearson, age 72 of Roanoke Rapids, NC passed away Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.

Mr. Pearson was born May 7, 1941 in Baltimore, Maryland , the son of the late Audrey Person and Mamie Johnston Pearson. He was also predeceased by his first wife Louise Pearson.

Mr. Pearson was a faithful member of Victory Baptist Church, formerly Lakeview Park Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He worked for WZRU Radio and Spears Pharmacy, both in Roanoke Rapids.

He is survived by his wife Gloria Campbell Pearson. His sons, Ray Pearson and his wife Ann. Timmy Person and Steven Person and his fiancé Mary Rupp. His daughters Judy Person Dickinson and her husband Keith of Maryland and Charlene Pearson. His sister, Shirley Ann Serna. His grandkids Raymond Pearson and his fiance Laura Martin, Rob Marletta, David Pearson, Cameron and Alexis Gainer, Mason Dickinson, Kelsey and Katie Pearson, Victoria Keeter and Shawn Spillane. His great grandkids, Camren Marletta, Jorryn Pearson, Landon Pearson, Addyson Pearson, Jake Nelson and Adrianna (A.J.) Rera who always brought sunshine in his life.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at

11:00 AM at Victory Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends at Victory Baptist Church, Tuesday, January 28, 2014 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and other times at the home.

Hazel Leigh Johnson, age 91 of Roxobel, NC passed away on January 25, 2014 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

She was born on October 1, 1922. Hazel was preceded in death by her father Elijah Fleetwood Brown and mother Meta Perry Brown. She was also preceded in death by her son Russell Earl Johnson.

Survivors include her daughters Diane J. Baxley of Newport News, VA and Susan J. Whitfield of Hamilton; Her son Charles Johnson of Chesapeake, VA.

Memorial services will be held private at a later date.

James Willie 'Nick' Vaughan

James Willie “Nick” Vaughan, age 78 passed away January 30, 2014 at his home.

Nick was born January 29, 1936 in Northampton County North Carolina the son of the late Joseph Vaughan and Ruth Hodges Vaughan.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Lottie Lucelle Ward Vaughan and six brothers and six sisters.

James “Nick” worked many years as a jack of all trades and mastered  many of them. He was a handyman of any kind of construction.

Survivors include his companion of 19 years Nettie Elizabeth Rowe of Aulander, NC and one son Kenneth W. Vaughan (Linda) of Aulander, NC and left to cherish his memory are also numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at Job Cemetery in Aulander, NC at 1:00 P.M. with Rev. Taylor Latham and Rev. Ron Carr officiating.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC prior to the service from 11:00A.M. until 12:30 P.M. After the visitation we will then proceed from the funeral home at 12:30P.M. in funeral procession to Job Cemetery for the graveside service to celebrate the life of James “Nick” Vaughan.

Mr. Vick Lawrence Wood age 51 of Wilson, NC and formerly of Lasker, NC died Friday, February 7, 2014.

Vick was born December 9, 1962 in Ahoskie, NC. He attended Northampton County High School and a member of Potecasi Baptist Church.

Vick was preceded in death by his father Hubert Vick Wood, his grandparents, Seth and Callie Mae Daughtry, Jack and Mary Wood, his uncles, Wesley Wood, Bill Wood, James Wood, J.W. Wood Jr. and T. Wood and also an aunt, Mary Wood Game.

He is survived by his mother, Annie Mae Daughtry Wood, his uncles, Robert Daughtry, James Daughtry and Jack Game. His aunt, Janice Stryker. Also many cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Potecasi Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Browder officiating. Burial will follow at Potecasi Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends after the service at the church fellowship hall.

Mrs. Lucille Martin Hoggard, age 85 of Woodland, NC died Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Mrs. Hoggard was born May 2, 1928, the daughter of the late Claude W. Martin and Mabel Vick Martin.  

She was also predeceased by her husband Marvin Hoggard, a daughter Jean Hoggard Stacy, her sisters and brothers, Hazel Martin Ward, Jessie Helen Midgett, Claude K. Martin and Gilbert Martin.

Mrs. Hoggard was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and choir director there for many years. She also worked for Parker Manufacturing for many years.

She is survived by her son Buddy Hoggard and his wife JoAnne of Roanoke Rapids, her daughter Brenda H. Lassiter and her husband Ed of Woodland, NC, her brother E.S. Martin of Murfreesboro, NC, seven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.  Also a special niece, Annie Mae Best and a very special caregiver and friend, Bonnie Futrell.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC with Rev. Dr. Tim Mizzell and Rev. Randy Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in Rich Square, NC.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Sunday from 1:30 until 2:30 PM prior to the service.

Bobby Dale Turner, age 43 passed away February 18, 2014 at his home.

Dale was born May 21, 1970 in Halifax County, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his mother Sara Turner MacClellan and his grandmother Barbara Birdsong Turner.

Survivors include his father Bobby “Punk” Lawrence Turner (Rhonda) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His daughter Farrah Brooke Turner and Fiance James Byrum of Pendleton, NC; His son Darren Scott Turner of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His three brothers Tony Turner (Dorothy) of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Kenny Turner of Roanoke Rapids and Chris Turner of Roanoke Rapids, NC; His two sisters, Bobbie Turner Smith (Mike) of Roanoke Rapids, NC and Dawn MacClellan of Westfield, PA; His step-father Fred MacClellan of Weldon, NC and his grandfather Ruben Turner of Garysburg, NC. Also several nieces and nephews and many loving friends.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Dale will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. in the chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, NC with Rev. Dennis Gregory, Jr. officiating.

Geraldine 'Gerry' Emily Stackpole Gentry

Mrs. Geraldine “Gerry” Emily Stackpole Gentry, age 82 passed away on February 19, 2014 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice in Greenville, NC.

She was born February 7, 1932 in Orono, ME the daughter of the late Thomas William Stackpole and Clara Elisabeth Doner Stackpole. “Gerry” was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She volunteered for many years for the meals on wheels program.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years Aaron Darius Gentry of Severn, NC; Her two daughters Kathrine “Kathy” Hamon (Al) of Missouri and Patricia “Pati” Benton (Hugh) of Deep Run, NC; Her son William “Billy” Gentry (Sandi) of Alexandria, VA; Her seven grandchildren April, Heather, B.J., Lauren, Katie, DeDe and Dalton; Her two great-grandchildren Sarah and LeaAnn, also her sister Marge Gurr of California.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Geraldine “Gerry” will be held Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. at Galatia Baptist Church with Rev. David Foster officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the church.

Murphy Laton Myrick

Murphy Laton Myrick, age 70 passed away February 18, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Murphy was born November 9, 1943 in Halifax County North Carolina the son of the late James Walter Myrick and Sarah King Myrick.

He was also preceded in death by his wife Olivia Long Moore Myrick. Murphy proudly served in our armed forces in the US Army for two years. He was an advocate for the employees of J. P. Stevens Company during his twenty years of service.

Left to cherish his memory are his two sons; Murphy Myrick, Jr. (Karen) of Roanoke Rapids and Matthew Myrick of Roanoke Rapids; His one daughter Julie Myrick of Nashville, NC and his beloved seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 in the Chapel of Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids at 2:00 P.M. with George Conner officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Littleton, NC.

Talmadge “Eugene” Baggett, age 71 passed away February 24, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Eugene was born January 11, 1943 in Hertford County North Carolina, the son of the late Eugene Wilson Baggett and Maggie Lillian Skinner Baggett. He was a proud truck driver for many years and loved his two dogs. Eugene was a truly loving husband, father, step-father and grandfather. He truly was the back bone of the family.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Norma Holmes Baggett of the home; his three sons Talmadge Baggett, Bobby Baggett and Stacy Baggett; his daughter Darlene Powell; his four step-daughters Judy Smith, Debra Hale, Melissa Reese and fiancee Vondrell Menefee and Norma Jean Reese; his step-son Christopher Reese; his special grandchildren Victoria Barber and Danny Rhodes; his great-grandson Danny Rhodes, Jr. “Lilman” and several more grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of “Eugene” will be held Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM at 704 Carolina Rest Home Road Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870 “The Home Place” with Rev. Juanita Gray officiating.

Mrs. Doris Taylor Wiggins age 91 of Ahoskie, NC died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Creekside Care and Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Wiggins was born October 1, 1922 in Hertford County, NC the daughter of the late James Thomas Taylor and Daisy Maude Burch Taylor. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cecil D. “C.D” Wiggins.

She is survived by her children, Leah W. Stubbs and her husband Fletcher of Richlands, NC, Cecelia W. Bracy and her husband Tony of Aulander, NC and Jim T. Wiggins and his wife Dana of Lewiston, NC. Three grandchildren, Nicole Stubbs Miller and her husband Zach, Adam Ryan Bracy and Amber Dawn Bracy. Two great grandchildren, Nathan Miller and Logan Miller. Her step grandchildren, Lee Bunch, Stephen Bunch and his wife Becci and step great grandchildren, Hatteras Bunch and Camryn Bunch. Also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Frist Baptist Church in Ahoskie, NC with Rev. Dr. Daniel Glaze and Dr. Jesse J. Groom officiating.

Mrs. Jones was born October 17, 1937 in Bertie County, NC, the daughter of the late James B. Byrum and Emma Connor Byrum. She was also predeceased by a son, William C. Jones and a brother William D. Byrum.

She is survived by her husband Wilmer C. Jones, her children, Cathy J. Clinton of Ahoskie, NC, Jerry W. Jones and his wife Linda and Mike A. Jones and his wife Anita, all of Murfreesboro, NC.  Her sister, Mary B. Jones of Ahoskie, NC. Her grandchildren, Hannah Langford, Michael Jones, James Jones, Jennifer Anders and Doug Clinton.  Six great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Highland Memorial Gardens in Ahoskie, NC.

Carolyn Marie Hasty age 75, of Margarettsville, NC died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

Carolyn was born April 10, 1938, the daughter of the late Floyd C. Hasty Sr. and Leasie Virginia Davis Hasty. She was a member of Margarettsville Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Annie Virginia Peede, Floyd Hasty Jr. and his wife Sonee, Frances Hasty Warrington, Charlie Thomas Hasty and his wife Elizabeth, Marshall Wayne Hasty and Rosa Leigh Nally and her husband Jerry. Also many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 2:00 PM at

Margarettsville Baptist Church Rev. Rev. Larry Cribb and Rev. Jim Cox officiating. Burial will be private at Davis Family Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC, Saturday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM.

Nell Hobbs Beale Gay

Nell Hobbs Beale Gay died peacefully on March 19 at The Fountains of The Albemarle in Tarboro, NC.

Nell was born September 2, 1918, in Durants Neck, NC to Charles Norman Hobbs and Nell Harmon Hobbs (Whedbee). Nell was married to the late William Joseph Beale, Jr. of Jackson ,N. C. and later remarried to the late David E. Gay of Seaboard, N C. 

She was the mother of William Joseph Beale, III ( Sandra Parker Beale) of Jackson, NC and Margaret Beale Cooley (Tillman W. Cooley, Jr.) of Dallas, TX.

Nell is survived by her children Bill and Margaret, her 5 grandchildren Elizabeth Beale Coggins (Jeffrey), Jo Anne Beale Futrell (Donald), Tillman Webb Cooley III (Michele), Charles Cooley (Angel), and Nell Cooley Ward (Johnny), and her 11 great-grandchildren Kate and William Coggins, Cullen Futrell, Thomas and William Cooley, Allison, Ashley, and Charles Cooley Jr., and Elizabeth, Anna, and Charlie Ward. Also four surviving nieces Frances, Barbara, Jean, and Sara and one surviving nephew Robert.

Nell is also survived by two step daughters; Sally Burnette of Orange Beach, AL, and Mary Howell of Seaboard , NC, and their children Mary Lynne Burnette, Rod Howell and Sally Howell Donaldson.

Nell moved to Jackson in 1937 to work for the Gay and Midgette law firm. She subsequently married William Beale, Jr. and lived in Jackson until after his death. In later years she married David Gay and moved to Seaboard, NC. She worked for the Northampton County Health Department for many years during her time in Jackson. She was very active in the community with the Baptist church, Women’s club, and various volunteer groups in both towns. Throughout her life, Nell held a special love of the Outer Banks and made many trips to the beach, especially her beloved Nags Head area.

In 2007, Nell moved to the Fountains of The Albemarle in Tarboro, NC where she enjoyed many new friends. Her family would like to thank all the staff at The Albemarle for their help, and especially her caregiver Annie Worsley.

In lieu of Flowers a contribution can be made to the Jackson Baptist Church, Jackson NC or the Church of the Saviour, Jackson, NC in memory of Nell Hobbs Beale Gay.

A time for family and friends to celebrate Nell’s life will be held at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, NC on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2-4.

A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday,  March 30, 2014 at 2; 00 P.M. at Robert ' Chapel Cemetery in Pendleton, NC.

Linda Jordan Ricks

Mrs. Linda Jordan Ricks, age 71 of Seaboard, NC died Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, NC.

Linda was born September 23, 1942 in Seaboard, NC, the daughter of the late Joseph Jordan and Rosa Jane Long Jordan Worrell. She was a member of Seaboard Baptist Church and was secretary at Gay Implement Company in Seaboard for 39 years.

She is survived by her husband Jimmy R. Ricks, her daughter Julie R. Sykes and her husband Johnny of Conway, NC and her son Wesley Ricks and his wife Ruby of Roanoke Rapids. Five grandchildren, James Sykes, Jennifer Sykes, Kelly Sykes, Ryan Ricks and Will Ricks.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Seaboard Baptist Church with Rev. Bobby Harrell officiating. Burial will follow at Seaboard Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home in Jackson, Friday from 7:00 until 8:30 PM and other times at the home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Seaboard Baptist Church.
